Our goal is to find alternative sources of revenue, beyond taxes, that will be used to stabilize taxes and revitalize Main Street while continuing to invest in our infrastructure, community space and events.
How are we doing this?
1) Focusing on development of homes and businesses, which generates new revenue to help offset municipal taxes and allows for investments in town enhancements:
- Over the last 11 years, we delivered 3.5 times less in municipal tax increases compared to prior administrations, achieved in part by the PILOT program and development like Avalon Bay.
- More homes will enable our utility costs to be shared among more units, helping keep utility costs more stable.
- The development negotiations we are currently finalizing for the Meer Track will generate one-time revenue of $10 million from the sale of land and one time permit fees, plus $2.5 million paid by the developer annually. This is another great example of new revenue generation.
2) We continue to invest in our community:
- Installed new tennis/pickleball courts and Walter T. Bergen.
- Building a new playground at Bogue Pond largely paid by grants, not tax dollars.
- Seeking grant for new playground at Delazier field.
- Establishing a new Bloomingdale Museum on Ballston St.
- Installing a gazebo and obtaining grants to repair the Bloomingdale Senior Center.
3) Through innovative partnerships we are providing new services to other towns, creating $1.7 million in shared service revenue.
- More recently, we entered into an agreement with Butler to provide garbage / yard debris removal and Wanaque to remove yard debris.
4) By partnering with our school system, we are helping find creative solutions to help consolidate expenses and provide critical services to students.
- Providing dedicated special law enforcement officer to protect our children.
- Providing plowing shared services to the school district to lower costs.
